The Interview Pt. II

Question: Involvement/Time at NDNU?
Response: Stuart "Eli" Latimerlo. Co-Director of the Dorothy Stang Center for social justice and community engaged. Also a lector and teacher. Been director of the DSC since 2099, but has been involved with the DSC since 2007 or 2008. Came to help the university develop its relationship with its community partners. First came in 1991, but been doing what he's doing since 2008.


Question: What/Why this issue?
Response: Introduction to the story of Dorothy Stang influenced him. Her struggle moved him to make something with his one life. He considers himself a pacifist. He advocates and collaborates with peace sharers and environmentally friendly organizations. A lo of reasons. Primarly, he wanted to make a difference with his life. The movie An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore, the Twin Towers and the Wars motivated him to change. His life has been heading in the direction of peace and environmental activism--his calling.

Question: Where YOU need to be?
Response: "Anything that we are doing that keeps us on the right path is what we need to be doing".

Question: Why dreadlocks?
Response: "Dreadlocks represent roots--connecttions. Interconnections of the soul. We are interconnected. One love".

Question:Any regrets/Final thoughts?
Response: "No regrets. Change takes time, requires patiences, but can be done immediately--it begins with a choice. Every person knows when they are being treated unjustly". "Any small thing you're willing to do will make a difference".

The Interview Part I

Interviewer: JerBear
Interviewee: Stefano Tobias

Question 1: How long have you been at NDNU and how does it feel to be a sophomore in college?
Stefano's Response: Been here for two years. Trying to graduate early.

Question 2: What social justice issue were you apart of? Can you please explain it?
Stefano's Response: Helping homeless people. Wasn't apart of a specific organization, but attended certain events like the Tenderloin and assisted younger children of homeless families in academics like reading, writing, math, etc.

Question 3: Why did you choose this social justice issue?
Stefano's Response: He did it over high school. "It kind of fell into place". There's no obligation. The perception of homelessness is false. "Homelessness can happen to anyone. Even the most educated".

Question 4: How did you feel after you did this?
Stefano's Response: Cliche, but it made him feel good about himself.

Question 5: Finally, what did you learn from it and would you do it again?
Stefano's Response: He learned that homelessness happens to anyone. People shouldn't be scared to lend a helping hand. "I would do it again, if I had more time".
